The Vipp pedal bin – a classic from 1939 – has a stainless steel lid that closes in a soft, silent movement by means of a damping mechanism. A rubber ring ensures airtight closure. The body is made of powder-coated steel and hides a removable inner bucket made of galvanized steel. A rubber ring at the bottom of the bucket protects sensitive surfaces. From Holger Nielsen's metal goods factory in the small Danish town of Randers to world-famous design shops and art museums. The year is 1939. Holger Nielsen and Marie Axelsen have just gotten married. Marie is a trained hairdresser and wants to open her own salon. She doesn't have much money, so she asks her husband for help setting up the salon. Among other things, she would like to have a practical trash can. After many days in the workshop, Holger Marie is able to introduce the pedal bin Vipp – and she is thrilled. The Vipp bucket was originally intended only for Marie. But some of the city's doctors and dentists are Marie's customers and think that the bucket fits perfectly into her husbands' practices, not least because it is practical and very robust. That's why the pedal bin will soon be part of the permanent inventory of Danish practices.
